Wow! March completely got away from me so this issue is a bit late. My sincerest apologies.
This month passed by so fast and I haven't taken much time to reflect on what excited me, made me sad..or just made me feel passionate one way or another. As I sit down to write this newsletter I am realizing that comedy has made my heart sing this year. My partner and I watch comedy regularly. He is a comedian and a pretty charismatic guy so he loves the genre. Most of the standup specials we watch are pretty meh in my opinion. But this past month we struck gold! Ali Wong’s latest Netflix Special Don Wong had me in the best mood! Her take on life, marriage, and motherhood is a ton of wisdom wrapped up in the most hilarious real-life scenarios I have ever heard. We also watched Nicole Byers’s BBW. Another feat of comedic genius! It's a fun take on life as a Black woman in an ass-backward world!
These specials had me smiling for days. After 2 years in a panini press, a war, and inflation these brought a welcome reprieve from the harsh realities of life. I am genuinely excited to see more women take center stage in comedy. I’m tired of the same old Dave Chapelle bits (I will not touch on the Oscars controversy because I’m still processing). I hope you all get a chance to enjoy these specials. They really deliver.
