Li Pa Pi Mal:
(Translation: I’m not too bad)
Building individual capacity by cultivating joy.
How to cultivate joy by not engaging.
Two things about me: I’m a Libra, and I’m neurodivergent. My neurodivergence means I often need more time to process information, and I can miss things when the moment moves faster than my mind. People often assume, because I’m a Libra (Libra stellium, for those who like astrology), that I’m indecisive. I’m not. I’m just thorough. I like to sit with things, turn them over in my mind, and consider all sides before I act.
Over time, I’ve learned that this kind of slow reflection isn’t a flaw. It’s a gift. It allows space for clarity, and when I don’t rush myself, that space can actually feel joyful. That said, I often do rush myself. Too often, I don’t have the option to slow down. It’s hard to prioritize slowing down in a society where everything needed to be figured out yesterday. I know I’m not alone in this.
We’re often told to use our quiet moments. Journal, process, vent, or brainstorm. All great things. But today, I want to offer something different: do nothing. Don’t engage. Don’t solve. Let your concern rise... and let it fall. Give your body and mind the chance to soften. This isn’t avoidance, it’s rest. It’s grace.
When I want to allow myself this space, I:
Watch the clouds
Picture a switch flipping my brain off
Remind myself: I don’t have the answers right now, and that’s okay
It might sound strange to cultivate joy by doing nothing, but it’s real. This is the sweet spot between overwatering and neglect. A time to trust that things can unfold without your constant effort.
This, too, is joy.

I got the opportunity to disconnect and go camping with friends and family this weekend. It took me a few days to even just be able to settle in and be present! Ah, and I was JOYFUL. I hope I can remember that as I re-enter "real life". Great reminders today - thank you.
Naome! You popped into my head the other day and now here you are in my feed. I hope you’re doing well (or hanging in there, given … *waves hands* … everything 🫠).
Very much appreciate your wisdom about doing nothing; I struggle with that big time!
